![]() ![]() There is also an insane difficulty spike that comes out of nowhere. On the Series X, these screens only last a few seconds, but it still pulls you out of the game. Nyanza is a pretty slow moving character as well, and the fact that each new area triggers a loading screen doesn’t help matters. After being told to gather X amount of Y over and over again, I became pretty tired of the gameplay experience.Ĭheckpoints and teleportation locations are sparse, making traversing Canoidera a chore. Even the side missions are all fetch quests. This became exhausting very quickly and seemed to be never ending. You don’t gain any XP from battles, so you’re forced to grind to level up. It took me a little over sixteen hours to complete, but the majority of that time was spent battling the same enemies and bosses for hours on end to obtain the materials I needed to upgrade my armor, weapons, and spells. The biggest source of contention with Kitaria Fables is the sheer amount of grinding that occurs. This is sadly the extent of my enjoyment of this title. I also found the combat to be satisfactory, if fairly limited. The score is wonderful and suits each area that you enter. Everyone and everything is so adorable that it’s almost tooth-rotting, and the farming aspect is simple to grasp yet ends up being sidelined after a few side quests. The main quest introduces new characters who add wrinkles and layers to your journey. The narrative is what kept me wanting to play, even if it was somewhat formulaic. The catch? Magic is forbidden and anyone caught practicing it can land in hot water. You inherit your uncles’ farm in Paw Village and set off from there to learn magic to aid you on your journey. You play as Nyanza, an adorable cat who is determined to protect the land of Canoidera from an onslaught of demons. Kitaria Fables’ story is basic but does sprinkle in messages on the importance of friendship and being kind. It didn’t live up to any of its promises and ended up being a pretty major slog. Sadly, it failed to strike a chord with me. Add in a cat protagonist with a cute graphical style and this should have been a big hit. Twin Hearts Games’ game is labeled as an action/RPG with crafting and farming elements. But is it fun? Yes.I really wanted to love Kitaria Fables. I'm thinking the story was just a "placeholder" until they got the rest of the content in, too, but again they ran out of time or money so they just did a quick polish on what they had and shipped it.īut hey, it's a cute and fun little game. but it really does seem like they were planning on more content but then ran out of either time or money. And those other caves and such are just "background scenery" which is fine. But it moves the game along and gives some sort of reason why certain areas are locked until you reach a certain point in the story. they all end up in the same back-woods podunk village and end up dealing with the new Calamity in three different ways WITHOUT TELLING EACH OTHER!?!?! And the only remaining "legendary hero" and the descendant of the other one, and his own grandchild, and two weird beings who are supposed to PROTECT THEM FROM DANGER (but apparently can't fight at all). Some random dude in a shack says "bring me some priceless ancient relics from the most dangerous places in the world" and you just go along with that, no questions asked? Yeah. You play a cat, but your grandfather is a rabbit? Not gonna happen IRL. ![]() Hazel is a princess, but joined the army and decided to man the most remote/isolated fort in the empire? I think not. And in that kind of role, I think this game works really well.īut OP is right, the story in this game is REALLY FLIMSY. then it's just a quiet little adventure that you can use to escape your own reality for a few days after work/school or over the weekend. If you can wrap your head around the fact that none of the characters are the same species as their parents for no apparent reason. It's cute, it's casual, the combat is easy but balanced. ![]() It is an ACTION ADVENTURE game first, and the farming is just there so you can earn enough money to upgrade your weapons and armor. this game isn't "story rich" like Final Fantasy 7, and it isn't as much of an open world as Fallout 3. ![]()
